“We Must Protect the Environment” is my first published work. Sure, its a letter to the editor by an eleven year old, but I was very proud. I’ve carted this thing around over the years, and thus it bears the residue of coffee, water and an exploded red pen.
I enjoy looking at it positioned on my bulletin board over my computer. It reminds me of the hubris I had at eleven to fire off a letter to the newspaper. I would like to recapture that unwavering confidence now and then.
When I read this now I am a struck by the following thoughts:
1. I was the original eco-friendly, green girl (just call me a futurist)
2. I had a penchant for using the second person and annoying rhetorical questions to make my point.
